Myth of the Rare Hand

(le mythe de la main rare)

Inspired by the tale of Cinderella, this play tells the story of the Deaf through the years.

Hands are very precious for the Deaf, so in this story Cinderella's shoe is replaced by "the golden hand", an integral part of Deaf culture. Without hands, communication is impossible. Through artful video images projected in the background, the play demonstrates how Deaf people have broken down the barriers that stood before them over the years, in 1850, 1970 and even today, in 2022. At the same time, it references to the evolution of technology over time, being a key aspect in the accessibility of Deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

Cette pièce de théâtre inspirée du conte de Cendrillon racontera le vécu de l’histoire des Sourds à travers les années.

Les mains étant très précieuses pour les Sourds, le soulier de Cendrillon sera remplacé par « la main d’or », partie intégrante de la culture Sourde. Sans les mains, la communication est impossible. La pièce démontrera de manière artistique, grâce à des images vidéo projetées en arrière-plan, comment les personnes Sourdes ont brisé les barrières qui se dressaient devant elles au fil des années, soit en 1850, 1970 et de nos jours, en 2022. Parallèlement, des références avec l’évolution de la technologie à travers le temps seront mises en évidence, étant un aspect primordial dans l’accessibilité des personnes Sourdes et malentendantes.
