SOUND OFF: A Deaf Theatre Festival

OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Attention Deaf performing artists!

SOUND OFF, Canada’s national festival dedicated to the Deaf performing arts, is announcing an open call for submissions.

In collaboration with the Chinook Series and Fringe Theatre Adventures, the 5th annual edition of SOUND OFF will take place between March 31st and April 4th 2021, in Edmonton, Alberta at the ATB Financial Arts Barns in the heart of the historic Old Strathcona neighbourhood.

While we hope to have an in-person festival in Edmonton with public health measures in place, in the event that is not possible, we will instead host the festival entirely online.

With that in mind, we are announcing a call both both in-person and online performances for individual artists and collectives. We will still feature select on-line performances if our in-person event takes place.

We are also seeking submissions for our staged reading series. This is intended for new works in progress that would benefit from feedback from a live audience.

We are also announcing a call for workshop leaders who are interested in hosting peer-led training workshops during the festival.

SOUND OFF is committed to diversity and we encourage applications from marginalized communities, including BIPOC and LGBTQ artists, as well as marginalized sign language communities including LSQ, MSL and ISL.

A limited number of spots are available. Deadline is 11:59 PM (ET) October 20th, 2020. Funding for travel and accommodation is available for participants and professional fees will be paid.
