Plé

“Get your curiosity caps on and hop onto this wild ride as we plunge into the beautiful world of the unknown – or should we say, the yet-to-be-known.”- The Plé Collective

Have you ever been totally frustrated because someone isn’t understanding what you’re saying?! Or felt sad or scared because you don’t think you fit in with the people around you? Or tried so hard and spoke as clearly as you could … and Siri STILL got it wrong UGH! Us too! No matter where we come from, how many languages we speak, or where we’ve travelled, we’ve ALL been there. We’re all human and we crave the same things: to be understood, loved, appreciated and celebrated.

Plé is a show about how our differences make us more alike than we might think. During the play, we’ll dive into the imaginations of three adventurous gal-pals. Each of the gals can only speak their own language (French, English and American Sign Language), but they can totally… mostly understand one another some of the time… you follow? No? Yah that sometimes happens to them too. Communicating can be messy sometimes - but that’s what makes it interesting! Our three gals will take you with them as they bump into language barriers, trip over misunderstandings and slip on silly miscommunications. By coming along for the ride, you’ll see that connecting with people who speak a different language doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating. Being curious and making friends with people who are different from us can lead to eye-opening, jaw dropping, mind exploding adventures!

Performed in English, French and American Sign Language, this show is full of fun facts, comedy, music, and spectacular visuals. You’ll also learn some signs yourself as we bust some myths about Deaf people along the way. Plé is made for young audiences (ages 5-10 especially) and their families; but all are welcome to join in the fun and watch the show!

The Plé Collective had been busy creating this show since 2015- learning each other’s languages and bending our minds to figure out how to perform in three languages at once! After its world premiere in March 2021, Plé went on to be the featured Canadian play on Children’s Theatre Digital, a streaming platform that aims to provide the very best children’s theatre from around the globe, and now is excited to share the show with the SOUND OFF Festival.
