SOUND OFF matinees available for school bookings

Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre, in conjunction with Fringe Theatre Adventures, is proud to present the 3rd annual SOUND OFF: A Deaf Theatre Festival and you’re invited!

Running February 13th-17th, 2019, SOUND OFF is Canada’s national festival dedicated to the Deaf performing arts. SOUND OFF will take place at the ATB Arts Barns in the heart of historical Old Strathcona as part of the Fringe Theatre’s Chinook Series Festival. ASL/English interpretation will be provided for each performance, making the shows equally accessible for both hearing and Deaf audiences.

Songs My Mother Never Sung Me is an opera for families about a Deaf mom and her hearing son. The piece is bilingual and is performed and sung in English and in ASL. The heart of this touching and funny work is its intimate connection to playwright Dave Clarke’s experience growing up as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult). Recommended for ages 6 and up. Presented by Edmonton’s Concrete Theatre.

Deaf Spirit Theatre returns with a brand-new show! This collective from Kingston, Ontario will perform a series of unique skits a featuring a comedic duo of two women in the 1950s who are from worlds apart, incorporating silent film, storytelling, comedy skits, dance and poetry, complete with stunning multimedia. A captivating production for all ages!


Tales From The East Coast

Friday, February 15th at, 12 PM

Direct from Nova Scotia, Tales From The East Coast is an entertaining and interactive series of poems and stories by Canadian Deaf writers in both ASL and MSL (Maritimes Sign Language). Suitable for ages 6 and up.

Limited tickets available! Each performance has a capacity of just 78 seats (Studio Theatre) and 147 seats (Westbury Theatre).
